Here continues the saga of how I nearly lost my leg because of Necrobiosis Lipoidica, and how I was able to avoid losing my leg after an injury to my necrotic leg tissue.

If you haven’t already read PART ONE, I recommend visiting that page first

WARNING – the photos are graphic

shown below is after the first treatment of Dakin’s Solution to draw out the infection from the leg tissue.  Dakin’s was described to me as a mild bleach, and it feels like bleach when they soak rags with it, put it on the raw tissue, and then wrap it up.  They did this about 3 times a day for a few days to bring some of the infection out of the leg.  at the same time we began IV antibiotics every 12 hours.  In the pictures below you can see dead stuff separating out of the tissue (indicated by the greenish brownish nasty stuff sitting on top of the wound).

this is a nice shot of what Dakin’s Soltuion can do to help fix some serious tissue infections.

The Dakin’s Solution treatment was some of the most severe pain I’ve ever experienced.

Almost ready for the next phase of treatment

it still looks bad but the Dakin’s treatments got much of the horribleness out of the leg so they could move on to antimicrobial treatments and continuous IV antibiotics

In the next segment, we cover the part where I was able to finally go home from the hospital and begin the process of healing.
